    Group exhibition

    Boxmeers Weekblad, March 5, 2003:

    Wandering in a contemporary world.

    By Frank Bekkers

BEUGEN - The initiative of the Beugen artist Ans Verdijk can rightly start as a message to the traveler. In her parental home she gives a group of artists the opportunity to transform the history of the spaces as such into the artist's own interpretation.

The opening took place last Sunday. Until April 13, visitors will. can wander through contemporary worlds that have come to reality.
"The result is an unusual combination," says Verdijk, laughing. "I was guided by the natural behavior of people to look inside everything. A natural kind of voyeurism is not strange to anyone."
"Just as a house shows life in all aspects, the exhibition is also a reflection of this whole. In the basement, how symbolically, Har van de Put shows images that appear to have once lived. The material used, namely clay, contains these properties also in itself.
Pliable when soft and hard, fossilizes when baked. Still later it crumbles, as does the bottom
    cast and disappear again.”

    Laboratory

In another part of the house there is a textile installation that appears to have come straight from the laboratory. The time in which emotions seem to be reduced to a minimum has stopped here for a while.
In a room that used to be used only during holidays, the stately atmosphere of the past now takes on a sense of satire and alienation through the portraits on the walls. Verdijk's birth chamber, which symbolizes a completely different part of life, has been transformed into a butterfly's bridal chamber.
"The transformation, the journey that such a delicate insect has to make, is a lifelong source of inspiration for me," says Boudewijn Corstiaensen.
Initiator and artist. Ans Verdijk revives the past in her room. Inhabited by colors that were once modern, furniture and other furnishings, time has stood still in this room.
The wall objects in the hallway in which new skins have literally been made for the walls reflect the paradox in which the past and present cannot live without each other. In this way, the emergence of the new from the past or, on the contrary, the emergence of the new as a reaction to the past becomes a symbol.
“The whole house breathes this spirit,” says Verdijk. "It is a fact that for me every creation is always the recording of a moment in time." Not only visual artists are active during the exhibition. Theater group Krioelje will be present on Saturdays during the exhibition at 1 p.m. In different rooms, visitors will see part of the bigger story while one of them will act as an instant actor.
The house at Oeffeltseweg 21 in Beugen shows its worlds until April 13 in the weekends from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. It is also possible to visit outside these times by appointment.
